Lung Challenge (on demand)
Independent of the Lung Function Screen, we challenge the inflammatory response and healing capability of selected mouse lines by defined protocols to induce specific disease pattern. Therefor established lung challenges are intratracheal applications for
- elastase induced emphysema (Yildirim, Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2010)
- bleomycin induced lung fibrosis (Königshoff, J Clin Invest. 2009)
- carbon nanoparticle induced sterile lung inflammation (Götz, Part Fibre Toxicol. 2011)
- endotoxin induced acute lung injury (Matute-Bello, Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2008)
Depending on the model and after a defined period of time challenged mice are analyzed for pulmonary function (see above) and quantitative lung morphology using design-based stereology. Alternatively the course of the inflammatory response and its resolution is monitored by cell differentiation from lung lavages and cytokine profiling.
